3 TV Show Law Enforcement Officers Who We All Love

By Jordan Bissell on August 31, 2014

The crime-fighting genre has long been a staple of American television.  Before the days of The Mindy Project or The Office, classic “good versus evil” shows like Bonanza, Magnum PI, and Miami Vice were capturing audiences everywhere.  There’s just something magnetic about watching a law enforcement man or woman saving the world.  Here’s a compilation of 3 more modern TV law enforcement officers who we all love…

1.  Detective Elliot Stabler (Law and Order: SVU)

Stabler, perhaps due to the almost cultish following of his show, has gained the admiration of people across the country.  In fact, he is so loved that–SPOILER ALERT–when his character leaves SVU, many of the show’s fans stopped watching altogether.  Elliot, the hot-tempered but incredibly loving father and upholder of justice, is in many ways the heartbeat of the show.

2.  Detective Jake Peralta (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

A relative newcomer to the TV law enforcement scene, Jake is an often bumbling but unbelievably kind and determined detective.  He fits less into the stereotype of a hardened, Irish cop from New York City, but instead is portrayed by the insanely-talented Andy Samberg as a young, confident, but not too serious detective who many younger audiences may relate to more.

3.  Dr. Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds)

For all of the more geeky audiences out there, “Reid” is a kindred spirit.  He can charmingly spit out relevant facts to any case and reads faster than most of us can think.  Reid is played as rather socially awkward, but is obviously good looking, playing into the “attractive nerd” character that others like Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker have portrayed.  There’s just a certain charm to realizing that Reid is not only fiercely intelligent when it comes to profiling criminals, but that he can also repeat 16th century poetry off the top of his head.

While there are obviously many more adored TV law enforcement officers (many of them female as well), these are a few that seem especially popular and beloved by audiences.
